Been thinking... having the board viewable only by registered members may be a little off-putting and may be causing people that ordinarily might join, not to do so. Any thoughts?

I would say Public.. With probation time.. you have a "read only" option but that won't help with knowing who the goobers are. I would suggest that Guests are allowed a period of probation with ooc posting allowed. Once they prove to be something reasonably sane.. then give them play options.

That's been a huge concern of mine as well, but I think I've got a handle on him. He has tried FIVE times to get back in here... CardKiller tried four. However, with the way ProBoards has its mod tools done, it's nearly impossible to make an ID here without being nailed for it. I'm leaning to allowing OOC posting in at least the Nexus Narthex and Baldersash.

Only registered users should be able to post, but i think the story threads and maybe cad sections should be open for public reading. If people get interested in what they read, they may register and end up becoming players too.

She can look all she wants. ::shrug:: I know her style, so if she tried to come in, I could just remove her.

Okay... I have the folders set up so they can be read by those who have not yet registered. The OOC folders can be posted to by guests, as well. The Adult folders have not had their access changed.
Of course, if anyone has concerns about a member, bring it to staff in private; don't just challenge someone on the boards!

Blanking out the nosy busy-bees is unproductive. Ultimately, people will either want to play with you... or they won't. I like the change to public. It's a good idea that should help people learn better what you're trying to do.
You might also want to consider making the application process automated using a valid email check. Yes, it won't keep out power-mongering stalkers, but you can remove them after the fact, right?

Mmm... I am going to keep the validation as it is for now, just because the one person I am worried about IS such bad news. Maybe in time I can relax that, but for now, I am not fond of the idea of risking it. This person has been very hurtful not just to me, but to a lot of other people on this site.

I don't know what to say about that one person you speak of, but we shouldn't let this person make us look like we are closed off and isolated. 'Sides, that's what you have mods for.
As it stands if I were to look at the site for the first time it wouldn't catch my interest since I can't browse and see what's going on. I think the read only status would work best for guest. It's probably just me but I don't like signing up and registering for sites that I can't actually browse through and see what I'm getting into.
Also it's time we were more open and got more people in. I'd love to see multiple games going on simultaneously. It means people are having fun and this site is worth keeping.

I did go ahead and open the story folders and everything so people can read. All the OOC folders are also set up so even a guest can post. They just have to register to actually join the game. Hopefully, that one person knows now to stay away and we don't have to worry!
