Mimi used to do that! She also used to snack out of the litter box. One time, she ate all the turds out of the litter box and yakked them onto my mom's leg while she was napping.

When ours was a puppy.. she kept trying to do a mix of using the litter box... and snacking out of it. She can't reach them these days, they're up high. Pity we couldn't have broken her of the snacking... would have been great if the cats had gotten to finish her litter training.
Though that would take one very large box these days.
